Clobbered the Monster
On Sunday, April 6, Easton Parrish, the pride of La Vernia, Texas, "Clobbered the Monster" by hitting a dead center field home run over the 60-foot Blue Monster at Dickson Stadium on the campus of St. Marys University.
It was great to get a chance to listen to Rob Shadow's call on the FloSports replay. Shadow is the voice of St. Marys Baseball and had an excellent call on the broadcast. There is so much going on in the video clip of the home run that I had to share it with you.
The Home Run
It was the first time anyone had hit it over the Blue Monster in a game since Danny Heep did it when he was playing at St. Marys. Danny, two-time World Series Champion with the 1986 Mets and 1988 Dodgers, did it in a game during the 1978 season. I can confirm that Danny hit it over (he's Garrett's Baseball coach). His only comment when I asked him about it was, "Wind blowing out?".
It never ceases to amaze me how every Baseball game is entirely brand new – something I've never seen always seems to happen. Completely old and brand new at the same time. That's Baseball.
Rally Spots
There's a good rally spot on the way to the St. Marys game – lucky me. The Longtab Brewery is tucked away in a nondescript office industrial park. You would never know how great this place is if you judged the book by its cover. The food is fantastic, the brews are on-point and served with thoughtful expertise. These guys know how to serve and brew beer. Plus, it's all about the Special Forces and the stories behind the people that make these service branches extraordinary. Highly recommended.
