Roam and Rally: The Road Less Traveled

Roam and Rally: The Road Less Traveled

Roam: Take the Road Less Traveled

A few years ago, we got stuck in a traffic stoppage on IH-10 right out of Flatonia, heading East to Houston on our way to Lake Charles, Louisiana, for, well, you guessed it, Baseball.

All eastbound traffic was diverted to Highway 90-East on the outskirts of Flatonia, Texas. EVERYONE had to use the two-lane highway to continue East. It was backed up for miles and miles. It took us three hours to get through Flatonia to an entry point back on IH-10, which was backed up for miles and miles.

That's when I stumbled upon Highway 90-East, a hidden gem waiting to be explored.

On a whim, we stayed straight and used Highway 90-East to get to Houston, and we've been using it ever since to navigate the journey from San Antonio to Houston. It's a good alternative when you can spend more time driving the middle part of that trip. I was excited to use it again when we traveled to Weimer, Texas, to watch a Baseball game at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The Baseball Game

I love a good, old-timey, creaky wood Baseball stadium. If you like that vibe, you'll love Veterans Stadium in Weimer. It has a precarious feeling going aisle to aisle, but there is ample space and shade to watch a game. The stands extend down the field, and a green-painted plank fence around the perimeter contains it. It has support poles for the shade awning/roof, creating obstructed views like a minor league Wrigley. It has a long history of hosting a Pecos League team and all levels of Baseball in these parts. It's nostalgic, has good views, a decent scoreboard, and a great Baseball vibe. Everyone liked it, and the vibe contributed to the quality of the game. Cash only.

A Frito Pie has to be served in the bag, correct?

O Yes

O No

Executive Order

Do you ever feel like you're being bossed around by your parents? It's a feeling I'm all too familiar with (sorry for not listening, Mom and Dad). In fact, it's so familiar that I created an Executive Order graphic to combat it. It's funny how history repeats itself.

What Executive Order would you issue to yourself?

Cheers!
