Happy Opening Day?

Happy Opening Day?

Posted on March 26, 2025

Happy Opening Day? My opening day was on January 31. To all those Major Leaguers getting started on Thursday, March 27, I say, "Welcome to the season, boys".

Since the big leaguers are finally getting started this week, I thought it would be a good time to reflect on my Baseball journey to date:

This week is a light week for me as I only have the opportunity to see three games in person and watch three games on FloSports. I don't know what I will do with all my time. Work? Suggestions are welcome.

One of My Favorite Players

As always, I'm paying attention to the players on the come-up and on the fringe who will make their mark this season. This allows me to create some 'parody' graphics that playfully highlight their unique skills and quirks, hopefully flying under the radar of the MLP Players Association. Those grinders and glue guys are one more of the things that make Baseball great. But I can't get enough of this guy:

Kiké Hernández

What's not to like about the Kiké Hernández Experience? Every team needs at least one Kiké on their roster. The guy is 100% about the team and will do whatever it takes to win. You can play him anywhere to help out: to date, he's played every position except catcher in the Major Leagues. In the Major Leagues! Who does that? Who has that kind of talent to play in Centerfield one day, then first base the next?

Does anyone in the MLB give a better postgame interview? I think not. There was this gem, too. If you want more, here's a great one-on-one question and answer at a memorabilia event a few years ago. If you watched the World Series last year, you can't forget this one either. Kiké got his parade, too.

As I said, every team needs at least one Kiké on their roster.

Just look at his numbers in the postseason: in 75 postseason games, he has an OPS of just under .900 with an incredible 14 home runs — nine of which came during his time with the Dodgers.

I'm pulling for Kike this year and looking forward to many more epic interviews. Opening day should be a National Holiday. Who are you pulling for this season? Cheers!
