Candy Season is Upon Us

Posted on October 26, 2022

“Moderation in all things, especially moderation.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

–––––––––

Step away from the Halloween candy aisle. I love chocolate. Unfortunately, chocolate doesn't love me back. As the candy season comes into full bloom next week – culminating in me buying enough chocolate candy to feed an army of trick-o-treaters that never seem to materialize – I was reminded of the Japanese term, "Hara Hachi Bu" – eat until you are 80% full.

A coincidence? The people from Okinawa coined the phrase and interestingly, they have one of the lowest rates of illness from heart disease, cancer and stroke, and live long lives. Maybe we all could benefit from whispering Hara Hachi Bu in our heads as we dig into the candy basket for the tenth time. Especially me.

Check out this custom Hara Hachi Bu type t-shirt I created way back in October of 2020. I dig the way it looks. It was fun to create, and it’s a great reminder to enjoy everything in moderation, even moderation.

–––––––––

Here’s to you getting through the rest of your work week without having to moderate any negative situations. Cheers!
