Ok, hear me out. Don’t get me wrong, I love Football. At one point in my life, that’s all I wanted to do. Luckily, my career as a wedge buster was short lived, but my love for the game of football lives on. Having boys that played and are still playing football changes your perspective (like most things when you become a parent). My goal now when watching a football game is for all the participants to be healthy at the end of the game. It’s a relief when everyone comes out unscathed. The intensity and brutality is much of the appeal, but when you have a dog in the hunt, it’s hard to watch at times.
Someone asked me why I don’t have Football T-shirts. Good question. That got me to thinking about the “why” – because I do love football.
I’ve noticed that when I’m working I can have a Baseball game on in the background and it’s a refreshing soundtrack. I can just listen and imagine. But when I have a football game on, there is no background. It’s all foreground. You have to watch it. It takes over your senses. Each play (car crash) keeps you on the edge of your seat. For me, because Baseball is so pastoral (George Carlin said it best about the two sports), there’s space to dream up ideas. But football is pure carnage, which doesn’t necessarily inspire my creativity. Maybe because it makes me nervous more than anything. But I’m trying!
San Antonio is launching its sixth (?) Pro Football Franchise this February when the XFL comes to town. I’m taking the Under bet on one season. No one asked me, but I think Carnage would have been a good team name. Just for fun, I updated my Wedge Buster Alum T-shirt from a few years back, cause it’s football, ahem, Carnage Season. It’s tucked into the Raw Collection too. Maybe one day I’ll have a Football Collection. Don’t hold your breath.

Here’s to chewing up and spitting out the last few days of your work week with gusto! Run down the field as fast as you can and smash your head into the weekend. Cheers!
